Sunset is a large scale landscape installation that celebrates the daily cycle of sunrise and sunset. A spiral array of 1001 mirrored and folded stainless steel discs create both subtle and dramatic reflections of the sky, depending on the position of the viewer and the time of day, season and weather. The work pixelates and amplifies the sky, and celebrates the surrounding natural environment and elemental nature of the changing weather. Using light as a sculptural material, it captures viewers with a stunning field of mirrors arranged in a Fibonacci spiral sequence pattern, found naturally occurring in sunflower heads. The work highlights the exquisite geometries and complexities found in nature, connecting us to the natural world. It is also reminiscent of solar panel arrays, hinting towards a future of hope in improved climate action and a repair of the planet, with a potential to make future climate infrastructure beautiful and engaging. The work encourages viewers to connect with their immediate environment, engaging the body and senses. It prompts reflection and contemplation of the passing of time, marked through the daily cycle of the rising and setting sun.
